EA’s Battlefield Takes Another Shot at Battle Royale with Battlefield Redsec

EA is trying their luck once again with a Battle Royale experience, this time with Battlefield Redsec. The publisher’s previous attempt, Firestorm from Battlefield V failed to capture player's attention despite being part of a successful multiplayer franchise.

The publisher already found huge success in the genre with Apex Legends, but had yet to truly crack the formula for its Battlefield franchise.

However, things feel different this time. Following the strong reception of Battlefield 6, EA has launched Battlefield Redsec, a free to play standalone title the first of its kind in the franchise.

The Battlefield Expands: Fort Lyndon

The centerpiece of Battlefield Redsec is Fort Lyndon, a massive redacted military facility hidden in plain sight between pristine beaches and a quiet residential community.

Designed from the ground up for large-scale combat, Fort Lyndon is filled with open zones, tight corridors, and destructible cover that keeps players constantly on their toes. Dynamic weather and lighting shifts push squads to adapt quickly, turning every drop zone into a high-risk, high-reward decision.

Unlike other Battlefield experiences, Redsec’s Battle Royale mode features a completely reimagined loadout system. Instead of traditional primary weapons and customizable gadgets, players drop in with:

  • A Class
  • A Sidearm
  • A Melee Tool

Loadouts can only be edited after joining a match and before jumping out of the infiltration plane, pushing players to make tactical choices before hitting the ground.

Players can choose between four distinct ClassesAssault, Engineer, Support, and Recon each offering a unique playstyle:

Each Class starts with its own set of Gadgets, Signature Weapon Proficiency, and Signature Trait. As matches progress, players can unlock additional Passive Abilities including a powerful shared Level 4 ability by earning score through eliminations, completing Contracts and surviving deep into the match.

Gauntlet: Squad Based Chaos at Its Finest

Battle Royale isn’t the only Redsec experience. The game also features Gauntlet, an intense round-based mode where eight squads of four players go head to head across a series of high-stakes special operations. Each round pushes squads to their limits, combining tight teamwork, fast strategy and objective-based gameplay.

For players who prefer the traditional multiplayer FPS feel, Gauntlet offers the perfect blend of classic Battlefield gunplay and competitive structure.

Here are three key tips to help you get started in this pick-up-and-play mode:

  1. Watch the Briefing Before every operation, a short briefing sequence demonstrates how the mode works and explains how points are earned. Skipping this often leads to confusion — and quick eliminations.
  2. Play the Objective While one mode, Contract, focuses on kills and deaths, most Gauntlet operations reward objective play over eliminations. Use what you’ve learned in the briefing to identify high-value actions and focus on helping your squad rack up points. In Gauntlet, smart tactical play matters far more than your kill count.
  3. Communication is Key The strongest teams in Gauntlet are the ones that communicate clearly. Use pings, voice chat, and text chat to coordinate pushes, defend objectives, or plan rotations. A silent squad is a losing squad and poor communication can easily get you reassigned or sent back to the start of the Gauntlet.

Battlefield Redsec is available free to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via EA App and Steam. With full cross-play support, players can squad up across platforms and dive into Fort Lyndon or Gauntlet.
