During the Xbox Developer_Direct broadcast, Playground Games officially revealed Forza Horizon 6, confirming a May 19, 2026 release for Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam.

It was also confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on PS5 later in 2026.

Alongside the announcement, the developers showcased the first-ever gameplay footage, revealing the game’s stunning new setting: Japan.

Japan Takes Center Stage

Forza Horizon 6 brings the Horizon Festival to Japan, a location fans have wanted for years. The map is described as the largest in Horizon history, featuring dramatic verticality, seasonal changes, diverse biomes, and a mix of urban cityscapes and rural countryside.

From neon-lit streets to winding mountain passes, Japan’s legendary car culture plays a central role in the experience.

A New Campaign & Progression System

Unlike previous entries, players won’t start as a superstar or champion. Instead, you begin as a tourist, building your reputation from the ground up.

  • Complete Horizon Qualifiers to enter the Festival
  • Progress by earning Wristbands through races and events
  • Unlock spectacular Showcases and new Horizon Rush obstacle events
  • Earn the Gold Wristband to gain access to Legend Island, a premium endgame region

The story features Legendary Horizon characters and narratives inspired by Japan’s real-world automotive culture.

More Than 550 Cars at Launch

Forza Horizon 6 will feature over 550 cars at launch, including the cover stars:

  • 2025 GR GT Prototype (making its video game debut)
  • 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

New and updated features include:

  • Overhauled Forza Aero
  • Window livery painting
  • New body kits for select cars
  • A new R Class for track-focused vehicles
  • Cosmetic tire wear that reflects mileage
  • Updated steering animations with up to 540° wheel rotation

Forza Edition cars also return, this time with extreme modifications.

Customize Your Life in Japan

Players can now personalize their experience like never before:

  • Customizable Garages in Player Houses
  • Share and download community garage layouts
  • The Estate, a permanent open-world build zone where you can construct and decorate freely

Everything you collect — cars, houses, landmarks, mascots — is tracked in a Collection Journal.

A More Social Open World

Inspired by real Japanese car meets, Forza Horizon 6 introduces:

  • Open-world Car Meets
  • Touge Battles (night mountain races)
  • Drag Meets & Time Attack Circuits
  • Seamless co-op activities with no loading screens
  • In-world leaderboards

Fan-favorite modes like The Eliminator and Hide & Seek return, alongside new Spec Racing Championships.

EventLab & Multiplayer Building

Creativity gets a major upgrade:

  • Build EventLab content anywhere in the world
  • Multiplayer building via the new Horizon CoLab
  • Create tracks, events, and locations together with friends in real time
