The hype around Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to grow, but behind the scenes, Rockstar Games is still deep in development.

On a recent episode of The Ringer Verse podcast titled “Our Most Anticipated Video Games of 2026 | Button Smash,” well-known gaming insider Jason Schreier shared fresh insights into the current state of GTA 6 and it sounds like the road to release is still uncertain.

GTA 6 Is Not Content Complete Yet

According to Schreier, the last information he received suggests that GTA 6 is not yet content complete. Developers are still working on missions, adding new elements, and deciding what features will make it into the final version of the game.

This means the project is still in an important development phase, rather than full-scale bug fixing and polishing.

November Release? Still Unclear

While a potential November release window feels more realistic than earlier targets like Fall 2025 or May 2026, Schreier believes no one at Rockstar is fully confident about hitting that date.

In his words, it’s “really hard to say” if the studio will be ready in time. The uncertainty reflects how ambitious and complex GTA 6 has become.

Rockstar Won’t Compromise on Quality

One thing is certain: Rockstar is not willing to rush the game.

Schreier emphasized that the studio refuses to release anything less than perfection. With massive expectations from fans and investors, the pressure is higher than ever.

He also pointed out that Take-Two Interactive’s stock performance is heavily tied to GTA 6’s success. Despite that, Rockstar would still rather delay the game again than launch it in a compromised state.

A Fiscal Year Safety Net

Take-Two’s fiscal year ends in late March 2027, which gives Rockstar some breathing room if they need extra time. This buffer allows the company to push the release while still keeping it within the same financial window.

PlayStation Is the Main Focus

Schreier also revealed that PlayStation is the primary platform for GTA 6. Sony is reportedly planning much of its future lineup around Rockstar’s blockbuster, showing just how important the game is to the console ecosystem.
