Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been cancelled. The announcement was shared through the franchise’s official X (Twitter) page, bringing an end to a project that fans have been waiting years to see.
In their statement, Ubisoft explained that while the remake showed promise, the development team wasn’t able to reach the level of quality that the original game represents.
Ubisoft’s Full Statement
“To the Prince of Persia community, We want to share this with you directly.
We’ve made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We know this is deeply disappointing. The game carries enormous meaning for fans and for the teams who worked on it.
While the project had real potential, we weren’t able to reach the level of quality you deserve, and continuing would have required more time and investment than we could responsibly commit. And, we didn’t want to release something that fell short of what The Sands of Time represents.
Prince of Persia as a universe and a legacy continues to matter deeply to us, and this decision does not mean we’re stepping away from the franchise.
Thank you for your passion, patience, and love for Prince of Persia. — The Prince of Persia Team”
The remake was first announced back in 2020, but since then, it faced multiple delays, studio changes, and development challenges. Over the years, fans grew increasingly concerned about the project’s progress and overall quality.
Ubisoft has now confirmed that continuing development would have required more time and resources than they could responsibly commit and rather than release a product that didn’t meet expectations, they chose to cancel it entirely.
