Ubisoft has announced a major internal reset that has resulted in the cancellation of six games, the delay of seven ongoing projects, and the closure of two studios.
Among the cancelled titles is the long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, which had already faced years of development issues.
What Was Cancelled?
Ubisoft confirmed that the following projects have been discontinued:
- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake
- One mobile title
- Four unannounced games, including three original IPs
- The identity of the sixth cancelled project has not yet been revealed
Ubisoft stated that these games no longer met the companyâs new quality standards and portfolio prioritization criteria.
Seven Games Delayed
In addition to the cancellations, seven other projects have been delayed to ensure they meet Ubisoftâs updated quality benchmarks.
One major unannounced title originally planned for release before April 2026 has now been pushed to FY27 (ending March 2027).
It is widely believed that this delayed project is the long-rumored Assassinâs Creed: Black remake, though Ubisoft has not officially confirmed it.
Why Did Ubisoft Make These Changes?
Ubisoft revealed that it conducted a thorough review of its content pipeline during December and January, which led to a strategic shift in its long-term plans.
The company says it will now:
- Refocus its portfolio
- Reallocate development resources
- Revise its roadmap over the next three years
The goal is to return to:
âExceptional levels of quality in the Open-World Adventure segmentâ and âStep-change the Groupâs position in the Games-as-a-Service (GaaS) experiences segment.â
What This Means for Ubisoftâs Future
Ubisoftâs reset shows a clear shift toward higher-quality releases and stronger live-service experiences, even if that means cutting projects that donât meet expectations.
While fans are disappointed about the loss of the Prince of Persia remake, Ubisoft insists that the franchise â and others â still matter deeply to the company.
For now, Ubisoftâs focus is firmly on rebuilding its roadmap and delivering fewer, but better, games in the coming years.
